Huntington Library Tea Cafe

Because it’s summer break, I had plenty of time to do a real, full-on painting. I had wanted to draw this view from a window in the Huntington Library tea cafe for a while, so I thought it would be a good time to do so.

I personally don’t enjoy drawing manmade objects because I’m pretty bad at drawing straight lines and perfect curves, so this was quite a challenge for me. However, I think it turned out pretty well!

Gesture Drawing

Now that it’s finally summer break, I can get to painting the things I’d wanted to (look out for those posts in the future!) and also actually post things on this poorly abandoned blog! I’d managed to do some gesture drawing during winter break and on the weekends, so here’s a little collection of them:

Hope to see you more in the future!

Merry Christmas!

My first semester of college is now over, and it’s now Christmas! This year’s Christmas picture shows the drive home for Christmas. I think it’ll go well with the song “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”.

I drew the background with pastels, but I wasn’t satisfied with the saturation, so I added the other features with Photoshop using my tablet. I think it went quite well!

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Catch Up

Since a lot has changed since my last post, I thought I’d give a little overview of what’s happened.

  • I finally moved from Singapore to California! After living in Singapore for so long, it was a bit sad leaving, but now I’m in California!
  • I met my grandparents in Korea and gave them a couple of my acrylic paintings that I posted here.
  • And I’ve started college!

I’m taking one design course, which is good because I’m awful at making posters and designs, and I really enjoy it! Here’s one of my projects on color:

Humans in the Forest

I’m really getting the hang of acrylic paintings! Here’s another one that I did. It’s meant to be humans in the forest. It’s a change from my usual illustrative style.

Also, some important news: I’m moving to the US to start college! I’m kind of happy (and nervous, and excited, and scared?) to finally be returning to the US!

Flora Painting

Hi, everyone! After finishing my last cliff painting in acrylic, I decided to do another acrylic painting, this time of a more complex flora landscape. Here it is!

I didn’t take as many progress photos for this one, so I hope you enjoy the final piece 🙂 It is based slightly on Rousseau’s paintings.

Painting of Cliff in Acrylic

Today, I’m going to show you one of my recent paintings of the 12 Apostles near Melbourne (click the link to read more about it.) I went to Melbourne last December, and this painting is drawn from one of my photos that I took there. I haven’t done much acrylic painting, and the ones that I have done don’t really satisfy me. However, I believe that this one is much better!

This is the final piece:

And these are the progress photos:

I think it turned out quite well!

Animal Pastel Drawing

While shopping at an art store a while ago, I saw a box of oil pastels with a decent range of colors for a pretty good price (I think around S$7). I then happily bought it!

I then worked on a piece for a while, which I am happy to show you today!

I took inspiration for this piece from a few photos. Here’s the link to the elephant, the gazelles (first photo and second photo), the zebras, the rhino, the leopard, and the background (first photo and second photo).

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, everyone! I know this post is a bit late, since it’s past December 25, but since Christmas is 12 days long, I hope you still have time to enjoy this post!

I’d originally drawn the below drawing with pastels on common printer paper, but it turned out so awfully that I had to redo it in Photoshop. The final product didn’t turn out that well either, so I’m posting my family’s Christmas decorations to make up for it!

And here are the decorations:

Sea Cliff Drawing

Hi, all! I wanted to show you one of my recent completed pen and watercolor drawings. It took a really long time, but I think it was worth it! Here are the process photos:

I can’t believe it’s already been three months since I last posted… I’ll try to upload more frequently from now on!

I’m off to Melbourne tonight, so I may post some photos when I get back!

Comments are appreciated as always!
