The Silver Blade by Sally Gardner

I am an avid reader of Sally Gardner and I was delighted to hear that she had written a sequel to one of my favorite books, The Red Necklace. I checked the shelves of my library everyday, waiting in anticipation for the day I could read it. After 1 month of waiting, I finally borrowed it. The Silver Blade is a wonderful combination of romance, fantasy, and mystery. Although I feel that it wasn’t as good as its predecessor, it is still a suspense-filled spectacle. Here’s what it’s about:

It’s the French Revolution and no one’s safe. Yann Margoza is now helping the innocent escape to safe England, the land where his beloved Sido waits for him. But the dreaded Count Kalliovski has made a pact with the devil and is back, planning his revenge on the couple. Will Yann survive? What will happen to their love? Read to find out!

Although The Silver Blade is less mysterious than The Necklace, I believe it is a great conclusion to the story. It resolves all the problems and also gives a second, deeper layer to each character. Unlike Now, however, it is necessary to read the prequel first. Therefore, I give it 8.9 stars. I recommend it for ages 13+, as some parts can be both intense and spooky at the same time. It’s a must read for those of you who have read The Red Necklace.
